How to Add Work Item in Project Management System?

  • Click on Context Menu Project Add Work Item
  • You will be taken to add page where you can add details
  • In Add work item page you will find the fields like
    •  Title
      • This will be the Caption/Heading of the work item.
    • Project
      • Here you need to select the project related to Title.
    • Type
      • This describes about the Type of a Task/Work that to be performed.(Eg: Task, Bug..)
    • Status
      • The Status here describes the kind of work you are doing. For example if we started doing work then will move it to inprogres,if you are yet to start then it will be in ready status.
    • Priority
      • Work item is assigned basing on the priority. So you need to select priorities from the drop down.(Eg: High, Urgent..)
    • Requestor
      • Here the person who asks to do the Work will be the requestor. You can  select the requestor Name from the dropdown.
    • Assigned To
      • This field says to whom the work item is to be allocated. You can select the Assigned to name from the dropdown in the work Item.
    • Notify To
      • If you want to report it to someone or to give alert will regarding the work item you creating, will comes under "Notify To". You can select Name of a user to Notify from the drop down.
    • Description
      • Here you can give the description of work item  that you are creating.
    • Category
      • Here you can select the Category from the dropdown.
    • Due Date
      • The Date on which the work item is planned to Complete. You can select the date from date picker/Calendar which is present on right side of the field.
    • Estimated Effort
      • The Expected Time to complete the work. You can enter the numeric value in the filed.
    • Parent
      • Parent Field means it is the hierarchy for the corresponding work item. Here you have to select the parent work item for  the corresponding work item.
    • Sprint
      • Here will set a date to complete the work items in scheduled dates. For the newly creating work items you have to select the sprint from the dropdown which is present in the sprint field.
  • Out of these some of the mandatory fields are 
    • Title
    • Project
    • Requestor
    • Assigned To
    • Status
    • Type
    • Priority
  • One who adds a Work item they should make sure that the mandatory fields are filled.
  • Once all the mandatory fields are filled then you can click on save button.
